Find, Know, Make, Own (FK-MO)

It’s past 6 when I woke up from a one-hour slumber. I climbed down from my bed and went straight to check my phones for any messages. I found my globe first and saw two unread messages.

“Te, di ako pumasa ng ust…” one from my brother.
“Ate ja… L >:D<” the other one from a friend.

Not more enough, next I checked my sun.

There were 4 missed calls, and one message which says, “Sagutin mo, may sabhin ako sa’yo.” I already know what to infer.

All the thoughts planned for next school year flashed through my eyes and fell straight to the Payatas of my imagination. Dang! Where would my babies shape their future now that the university of their choice turned its 400-year-old back at them?

Anyways, I know there are tons of good schools out there. Plus, in the game called LIFE, it’s not about the schools’ names anyways; it’s all up to the person whether he’s going to build his road to toy land or trash land. However, what bothers me most is their ‘self-talk’.

I’ve been through a lot of negative self-talk myself and its consequences are undoubtedly negative! (that sentence took a lot out of me, excuse me for it) I didn’t know where and when did I stop, but all thanks to God, to my family, and friends who helped me say, “Hey, Janina pull over! You’re on the wrong way, go back, and turn right, that’s the RIGHT way.” (why can’t I get over? OK, I’ll get over) But believe me, not everything that says turn right is the right corner or street or highway for you. Cos the perfect direction for you might be turning left, or going straight ahead, or even making U-turns.

Along the journey, you are going to meet older merchants that will tell you their versions of how they got into the ‘right’ path, just like them, you need to take your path—you have to KNOW your OWN.

Dear babies,

I know how you are feeling right now—down, crushed, helpless, disappointed, depressed, rejected, anxious—all the normal feelings that a full-functioning person has to go through when one’s (great) expectations were not achieved. It’s OK to feel that, but not as long as you’re living! That’s what abnormal meant.

Like I said earlier, we have different paths to take. And THAT path you thought were right for you might NOT be GOD’s (right) path for you. Now that you KNOW it’s not the right one, you have to make a U-turn. And It’s not bad at all! Because nothing that comes from the Lord is bad.

“I flunked UP, but UST saved me. Now, I will let UP see what they missed,” exclaimed Dr. Cabral proudly.
Being under Dr. Cabral for two semesters in Economics feels like a chicken perfectly grilled to become a juicy, delicious lechon manok, and believe me attending her 1-hour class/4 days a week makes me feel proud that I am in Komersiyo and I am a Thomasian.

She’s an avid Thomasian and her famous line is, “If you’ll cut me now, I’ll bleed yellow.” She flunked UP; now her revenge is as sweet as Ferrero Rocher and Ritter Sports combined—she is studying her second Masters degree in UP.

Now, my babies, my challenge for you is to find your own Dr. Cabrals that would make your proud to be in the path that God will show you in time. J

To more positivity, and less negativity! 2011 *gameface on*

Ate Lileth's blog is very timely! I am truly inspired! I might as well print this. I need a reminder, I have a problem with my photographic memory. hihi.
***
I was planning to create a NY’s resolution but when I came across Rajo Laurel’s blog, I decided that these 40 simple steps would be my mantras for 2011 instead.
1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.
2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock if you have to.
3. Record your late night shows and get more sleep.
4. When you wake up in the morning, complete the following statement,
“My purpose is to____ today.”
5. Live with the 3 E’s – – Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
6. Watch more movies, play more games and read more books than you did in 2010.
7. Make time to practice meditation, yoga, tai chi, and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.
8. Spend more time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.
9. Dream more while you are awake.
10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts.
12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
13. Clear your clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and flowing energy into your life.
14. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid.
17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the energy vampires away.
18. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
20. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
21. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
22. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
23. Don’t compare your life to others’. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
24. Burn the candles, use the nice bed sheets, Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: “In five years, will this matter?”
27. Forgive everyone for everything.
28. What other people think of you is none of your business.
29. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
30. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. So stop complaining about the weather, the job, the rents etc., etc.
31. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
32. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
33. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
34. The best is yet to come.
35. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
36. Do the right thing!
37. Call your family often.
38. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements:
“I am thankful for ___.” Today I accomplished ____.
39. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
40. Enjoy the ride.. Remember that this is not Disney World and you certainly don’t want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hey! Look! The baby me wants to wish you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

If you're going to ask me why I used my baby self. The answer is WALA LANG. CUTE KO EH! CHOS. Kidding aside, I wanna reminisce My Christmas Days from the past--visiting Ninongs and Ninangs around Bulacan, staying in Paltao with the Fajardos, and going home to the Mercados. There were so many toys and games, and foood--twas a whole wrap of joy and fun! It was indeed a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The only sucky things (THAT) time were my itchy dress, my suplada attitude, and my aginaldos going all to Nanay. She'd excuse, "Bata ka pa. Ang mga bata bawal maghawak ng pera. At magkano yang damit mo? Sakto lang sa napamaskuhan mo." And I thought to myself, did I ever ask you to buy me this itchy dress, if I know you did this on purpose--pinagkakitaan mo ako, Nanay! I actually did all the work for her. Smiling, and "blessing" to every oldies is hard work. Plus, being cute is another thing! Tapos, wala man lang akong talent fee?! So yeah, every Christmas, I ended up going to bed with a long face and tears in the eyes. BUT, at least there was a real celebration that's happened. :D

When I got older, things changed. There were no more going visiting Ninongs and Ninangs around Bulacan. Though we still go to Paltao, it wasn't as fun as when we were younger--I do not know if puberty has something to do about it. And when we go home, the only lights on are the ones usually lighted on normal days. And instead of playing Bingo with the rest of the gang, we head straight to bed and if we are in the mood the four of us talk of what's happening in our lives. Updating, you know.

This year, I am hoping for a better celebration of the birth of Christ. We, Fajardos, are going to heat up Paltao with our hot red attire (srsly, I'd rather spend Christmas day in Taal).

Having no good food and gifts/aginaldos are not going to stop me from having fun! Mahirap na ang buhay, naiintindihan ko. But they are not the essence of a true celebration of Christmas--it's about being one with your family in welcoming the Son of God in your lives. Lezz enjoy the season and HAVE FUN!:)
